004

Finished:

  • Rough Draft 2 is 82 pages in– roughly 68% done!
  • Working on very basic character asset testing
  • The buttons and general look of the main in-game screen seem set into place, but there’s still more work to come with the further stylization. This includes buttons to the save/load/ect screens as well as choice buttons. Working on finishing the overall overlay.
  • Added in custom font for the game
  • Changed scaling to nearest neighbor
  • Worked a bit on the home menu; It’s not fully done, but the basic concept is sketched out

To do…:

  • Rough draft 2, possibly get into Skeleton draft 3
  • Work on mockups of outfits for each asset I need
  • … Work on music?
  • Work on the look of the load menu
  • Work on adding in a CG Gallery function
  • Work on planning bonus content

An In-depth look at progress…

This month I feel a lot happier with progress than last month!

A LOT of writing has gone on– but I do wish it was more. But, the month is over and done with! I’m roughly 68% through the 2nd Rough Draft! How I determine this is via the skeleton draft (It’s 25 pages, I do the percent based off of what page I’m on of it, which is 17 as of writing this.) I did have a little help to sharpen up the start of the game via my girlfriend helping me with some pointers of consistency and sharpening up theming. I’d love to guess I’ll be done with this rough draft this month, given how far I am on it.

I also did some basic work on the look of the game. This includes things such as the overlay I want present in the game being worked on. The bones of the overlay are done, but there’s still work to be done with it. With the overlay comes things such as buttons, along with font and other visual things. I also did some basic tests for character sprites– below is my rough version of it! These will not be in game, but are just mockups.

For this month….

I really want to finish rough draft 3. I think I mentioned enough of my progress above, but it’s a big thing. If I don’t finish it, I'd at least like to get to starting writing the endings.

I also want to finish the overlay I've been working on. Like I said, I have the bones of it, it just needs to be spruced up and it’ll be fine.

I’m also planning small references for outfits for each of the characters. This is just to help me when I do work on the assets to keep consistency and so I don’t have to make an outfit as I’m making the sprites. The art for this won't take long and is more or less for myself on the back end of things.

The load menu/main menu/bonus features are something I’m looking forward to! I have to edit some coding with the load menu and find out how to get it how I exactly want it, but I do have it sketched out. The main menu is being worked on, and the look of that shouldn’t be that hard to do. Bonus features and CG gallery are something I have to plan out and implement– CG gallery shouldn’t be that hard, but I don’t want to be wrong on that either, as I need to look into how to do it. Bonus features I hope won’t be as hard either. I think the hardest part will not be deciding what I want to do for bonus features but figuring out how to code them into the game. That’ll all come later.

Music… Well… It’ll be on my own time. I’m not too concerned about that part until I’m further along, but it’d be nice to get to.

That’s it for the update! Thank you so much for reading all of this and following the progress!

Have a lovely month! ^w^ !

ganbatte!

it often feels never-ending to developp a game! : O

making music for my games is something i'd really like to do, but i have such a hard time making music on the cpu, and i don't have the space and ressource to play intruments i know (and they don't merge well...) but i have good hope to be able to do so one day too!

wishing you the best!

Thank you so much!!! <333

I don't know if it helps any, but have you tried BeepBox/Modbox for music making? I'm not a musically inclined person, but its the easiest way i've found to make music!!

With this project though I'm trying Furnace but that's been a serious learning curve !!! Trying to watch a bunch of tutorials and hope they stick...!

Yes i love beepbox! (^w^)ノ☆

i also have an old version of Retro Music Editor/Maker(?)! i love simple programs haha but i am still struggling! u_u

First time hearing about Furnace! i will check it out! thank you for sharing those tools! hehe i appreciate a lot!
