Hello~! June has been a good month for development~!
For a quick overview:
Finished:
- Skeleton drafts 1, 2, 2.5
- Rough draft 1
- Some basic testing for the look of the game: Buttons, choice menu, title screen.
- Some music tests
To do…:
- Rough draft 2, possibly get into Skeleton draft 3
- Refine the look of the game, namely custom menus
- Work on the music?
The planning for the game has been going well! I actually didn’t plan for a skeleton draft 2.5, but I made major changes between Draft 1 and skeleton draft 2, and they were formulated better in 2.5! Skeleton draft 2 and 2.5 also saw the introduction of me trying to make better notes for things such as CG changes and music changes– something that’ll save me some hassle when I need to gather up a needed material list later on. Skeleton Draft 2.5 is 25 pages [ironically]. Some of the major changes is an extra chapter was added, from 4 to 5, as I felt some of the pacing felt very rushed. I also added more endings, from 5 to 8. There’s 1 joke ending, which is an early ending, and another early ending one. The rest you have to complete up to Chapter 4 to get. There is also a true ending.
As for the music, I wanted to try and play around with it early on. Music is not my strong suit at all, and I decided I wanted to try something new for this. For 18782, I used BeepBox/ModBox, but this time I’m using a tracker– Furnace – to give more of a late 90s feeling to it. It’s a big learning curve, but I’m dedicated to figuring it out! I’ve mainly just played around, possibly made 1 track for in-game, but it’ll most likely be toyed with later. I also have a curse that I'm better at making horror music than anything upbeat or soothing…
I’ve been having trouble with deciding the screen size, but ultimately figured out a good 16:4 ratio that I like a lot. From there, I worked on the title screen and getting the rough idea of what I wanted. I have a rough sketch of my general idea of how I want it to look, but I’m trying my best to wait a little further down the line to start the actual art phase so I don’t get swept up in it, do all of that, and then end up wanting to revamp it all by the end (yes, 18782, this is directly at you.)
Once I get to my third skeleton draft, or at the earliest, the end of my 2nd draft, is probably when I’ll feel safe enough to start actual art for it. I also want to get a list of needed assets, so I don’t over or undershoot.
[A very, very, VERY rudimentary idea of what I'm going for. The art is old personal art, meant only to be a placeholder. The only aesthetic thing that'll probably survive is the choice menu] I have gotten basic changes made to the look of the game though; I have custom buttons for in-game choices, the title screen is being moved around, and the general look of the in-game UI is shaping up. I need to find out how to better customize the load/save screen next~!
This month will be a bit busy for me– My birthday and Yukio day is this month, along with ArtFight all month long. However, I’ll try my best to make some time for writing and working on this so I can give a decent monthly recap next month~!
That’s about it for updates! Thank you so much for reading! Have a lovely month! (=^・ω・^=)
